What are Thread Veins?

Otherwise known as spider veins, thread veins are tiny blood vessels, which are close to the skin’s surface. This makes them visible through the skin. Many individuals dislike them and feel that they are unattractive. If left untreated, they have the potential to spread and become larger over time.

Causes of Thread Veins

There is no exact reason why they are caused, however, we do know that thread veins occur because of changes to your circulatory system. The little blue and red lines most commonly occur after pregnancy, aging skin, hormonal changes associated with menopause, prolonged standing, and in some cases it can be hereditary.

Although thread veins are not physically dangerous, their visibility them should not be taken lightly. Visible changes to your circulatory system could mean serious illnesses and disorders in the future. Some problems include blood clots, ulcers, deep vein thrombosis, and more.

Treatments

There are several options when it comes to treating thread veins. Some of the most common methods are laser therapy and sclerotherapy.

Laser Therapy: By using short bursts of laser light, smaller blood vessels are destroyed so they are no longer visible.

Sclerotherapy: Bigger veins require sclerotherapy treatment. Using a tiny needle, a sclerosant solution is injected into the veins. The solution will cause the vein to shrink and eventually disappear.

Cost of Vein Treatments

First, it is important to know that the cost of treatment varies. In addition, each treatment is specialized to your needs. Depending on the state of your veins, whether they are thin/fine, spread, wide or large, whatever the variant, the price will differ. To understand the price and treat your symptoms, it is best to describe your condition and always feel free to ask questions about your treatment options.
